Khachoe Ghakyil Ling Nunnery

A Center for Tibetan Buddhist Study and Practice for Women

Khachoe Ghakhyil Ling Nunnery is a Buddhist nunnery in the Tibetan Gelug tradition. It is located on the outskirts of Kathmandu, near the Boudhanath Stupa. The nunnery was founded by Lama Thubten Yeshe, who in 1979 invited two Tibetan nuns who had recently fled from Tibet across the border of Nepal, to join his monastery in Kathmandu. Over the following ten years the number of nuns increased to 30 and in 1994 they moved into their own nunnery, just below Kopan Monastery. Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche gave the nunnery the name 'Khachoe Ghakhyil Ling - The Land of Bliss of the Skygoers'.
